The fund raised from the October-2020 Fluentgrid Impact League – a month-long walkathon for Fluentians, has helped us in setting up the second water plant in Valluru village. It is inaugurated on the 27th of November 2021.
Valluru is a small village near Anakapalli that has around 300 households. From this water plant set up, apart from the residents of Valluru village, 200 households from the nearby villages Rajupalem, Gollavanipalem, and Erukavanipalem will also benefit.
Earlier, for drinking water, the villagers had to travel K N R Peta or Koppaka around 7-8 km near Anakapalli, by Autos and Bikes. They had to spend Rs 20-30 for each carboy of water. Now they can get this within the village for Rs 5 per carboy.
The system is an inclusive model where those who wish to procure water have to become a member by paying a nominal fee of Rs 300/- per household. Apart from this, they are issued ATW – Any Time Water Cards at a nominal amount of Rs. 100. These ATW cards can be recharged whenever needed. These cards are to be used to get water from the plant. The ATW system is designed in such a way that it will work for a few hours even if there is no power – so the villagers can collect water 24×7. The system also dispenses only 20 liters of water, thus reducing the scope for any wastage.
The model generates revenue that can be used for the maintenance of plants and also additional village development activities. A 7-member committee formed from the village handles the entire plant operations. One or two members of this team are also given training on technical aspects of plant maintenance, ATW machine usage, card recharge, etc.
The corporator of Ward 80 Ms. Konathala Neelima, and in-charge Mr. Konathala Bhaskar Rao, were among the guests. Officials from Bala Vikasa – Mr. Abbulu, Mr. Pratap Reddy and Mr. Bala Mohan, and Fluentgrid Limited Senior Manager, CSV S Ravi Kanth Reddy were present for the inauguration.
