The “Paint My Street” initiative, a key component of the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) Eco Vizag campaign, is transforming public walls across Visakhapatnam into vibrant canvases of community expression and environmental awareness.
About the Initiative
Following a series of city-wide painting competitions, Paint My Street brings selected winning artworks to life on prominent public walls. Designed as an inclusive and participative activity, the initiative has witnessed enthusiastic involvement from a wide cross-section of the community, including:
- School children
- Fine arts students from Andhra University
- Local residents and volunteers of all age groups
The initiative aims to raise public awareness on environmental protection while contributing to a cleaner, greener, and more visually appealing city. The artwork focuses on key sustainability themes such as Eco-Clean, Eco-Green, Eco-Blue, Eco–Zero Plastic, and Eco–Zero Pollution.
Launch Event Highlights
The initiative was formally launched on March 12, 2024, near the All India Radio station, Siripuram.
- Participation: Around 200 school children, students, and fine arts experts volunteered their time and creativity.
- Scope: A 150-metre wall (approximately 2,500 sq. ft.) was painted over a span of 3–4 hours, transforming a plain stretch into a vibrant mural conveying strong environmental messages.
- Impact: The event fostered a joyful and collaborative atmosphere, effectively engaging the community in a shared artistic and social experience.
